Jeyne was covered from head to toe in mud. Not wet mud – dried mud that was flaking off bit by bit with each step she took. It was caked in her hair, which she’d twisted and placed on top of her head before it dried. Scattered amongst the dirty hair were leaves, twigs, and flowers. She was clad only in a bikini, also covered in flowers and leaves. And she was almost to her car when she heard someone call her name.

She turned her head, and to her horror, it was the last person she wanted to see her like this. He’d seen her, and she’d acknowledged it, and there was no way to pretend now that he was wrong. There was nothing she could say except the truth.

Robb ran to catch up to her, and once there and he could see better exactly what state she was in, he was speechless. He reached a hand up and plucked a twig from out of her hair, one eyebrow raised in question.

She did not say that she had let an artist do this to her, and had posed for him as a living model, in exchange for forty quid and a free lunch. She did not tell him that this was not the first time she had posed for him. She knew it wouldn’t be the last time either. And she definitely didn’t tell him it was all about the money, because she had so little to live on. She just shrugged, plucked a daisy from the strap of her bikini top, and tucked it behind his ear.

“I’m Mother Earth.”

I think Cat would say something about there being no way in hell Robb was taking a shower with Jeyne to get all that mud off. :)
